Stan Lampe is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

Lampe was on Wray high school’s first wrestling team in the 1953-54 season and placed 3rd in the state. He attended the University of Colorado and was a 3-year letterman in wrestling and placed third in the Big 8 tournament in 1958 and wrestled in the National Tournament.
The coaching career of Lampe began in Paonia, Colorado in 1958, where he coached the school’s first state wrestling champion. He then moved to Ft. Morgan High School to begin a 27-year career as head wrestling coach (1959-1986). His teams produced dual meet record of 275-59-5, which included 7 undefeated seasons and 91 consecutive dual meet wins. His teams also accounted for 25 tournament wins, 15 District/Regional championships, 16 Northern Conference championships and 7 state championship titles including 5 consecutive titles (1969-73). He coached 16 state champions.
In addition to the accomplishments of his teams, Lampe was voted Colorado Coach of the Year 5 times, National High School Coaches Association Region 6 Coach of the Year twice and National Coach of the Year (1987). He has served on the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) wrestling committee and the National High School Activities Association (NHSAA) Rules Committee. Stan was involved in refereeing for 26 years and was President of the Colorado Wrestling Officials Association. He served as athletic director of Ft. Morgan High School for 19 years.
Lampe started the first youth wrestling program in Ft. Morgan, which served wrestlers from Ft. Morgan and surrounding towns. He was also involved with the Japanese exchange program and coached at summer wrestling camps. Since his retirement from coaching, he has served as a volunteer at the Colorado State Wrestling Tournament.
Stan Lampe’s lifetime of service to the youth of America through the sport of wrestling as a coach, official and administrator has produced a legacy of contributions on an individual as well as statewide basis.
